This was the 3rd ARE MX cap that I have purchased. Prior to this cap, I had purchased the the same exact cap for a 2014 RAM 1500 C/C longbed (same truck I have now except my newer truck is a 2021). Well, the 2014 had really no problem with, but this cap had a major problem after it was installed a the dealership. This cap is TOO SHORT to fit from the front bed wall to the tailgate. There was NOT proper surface area to seal the front of the cap causing the front inside of the bed to become wet inside. The dealer stated that they contacted the manufacturer about the problem and was told that this was the correct cap for this truck. I ended up myself modifying the sealing surfaces to make it water tight. Also the way the fiberglass is finished/painted inside the lower rear door opening needs to be addressed (no paint, color fiberglass white instead of the maroon truck color or even flat black). And, the outside handle for the front sliding window has fallen off and was lost. Very disappointed for the money spent.

Excellent shop (film at Eleven) very professional and very friendly, I have shopped with them for many years, this is my 4th A.R.E truck cap, have enjoyed all of them with no issues. This cap has the keyless entry lock system. This is the only issue, they could not get it to work. I have to bring it back to have it figured out at a later date, this is not the installer shops fault (I believe it's something with the top assembly) this is an expensive option, I have hopes that they can get it to work, other than that excellent product. I would purchase another A.R.E product.

Purchased with fob actuated rear window lock. Lock actuator will not function, bad from the factory according to the dealer/installer. Dealer did not have a replacement in stock so this will require another visit. Rear window hinges and lock mechanism attachment points are just plain sloppy with the adhesive smeared haphazardly around. Dealer/installer scraped off some but still looks bad. Rear door hinges are cut from aluminum extrusion and left with very sharp edges just waiting to cut or snag something. Side windows are upswing opening. Aluminum side window frame ends do not match up leaving a sharp point that will cut or snag when reaching through the window. Side window weather stripping has 2 holes to allow drainage. These holes were gouged out with a knife and again, just plain sloppy and poor craftsmanship. You ask about function and reliability. It is too early to tell as this is brand new, but from all indications, I have serious doubts this topper will perform to even mediocre standards. Photos available upon request.
