Product Reviews : A.R.E. Truck Caps and Tonneau Covers

I decided on the MX cap because of the increased height. I upgraded with many options so I would not wish I had them after it was too late. Upgrades includes OTR option for scratch resistance, windoors that slide and tilt, behind cab too, 4 hangers, roof rack, headliner, and double latch rear door. The cap was installed at my dealer after waiting 6 weeks. I liked the look of black OTR on my dark grey 2019 Tundra DC 6.6 ft bed. Three days later, we had a moderate rain event. The port side and cab end windows both leaked soaking into the headliner and dripping on the bed. The bed rail seal did not leak. I have read that the drain holes on the windows are too small for heavy downpours and some guys drill them out. I will not. This is a brand new cap that cost me over 3 grand. The windows should not leak even in a driving rain. The next rain storm 2 days later brought water in the wondows again. This time the leaks occurred during driving and parked. I took the cap back to the dealer. They stated that the windows are not made by ARE....fine with me. The dealer removed the cap and I have been with an open truck bed for 2+ weeks now....and now the bed is full of snow. I understand that caps are not flawless objects but am disappointed in initial quality. Now I will have to trust that the dealer properly installs replacement windows. I would much prefer a factory installation but the warranty does not indicate this option. Also, after cap had been removed I found some paint on my truck had been worn off around the bed rail on both sides by the cab....annoying. SO, I am not happy but fully expect ARE to stand by their product, but it would be nice to have received a top quality cap on day one. Ordered early September, still capless Tundra in my driveway in December.
