Product Reviews : A.R.E. Truck Caps and Tonneau Covers

I purchased the LSII tonneau cover for my 2008 Dodge Ram. Was told that it would fit over my standard manufacturer's whale tail gate cap. When it came in, the installer figured out quickly that it didn't and said I would have to remove it and install their aftermarket product which was a cheap piece of black plastic. It wasn't in stock at this particular dealer, so he had to order it. A few days later, I went back to complete the installation which they said would take about 20 mins. An hour and a half later they were done....they thought. The rear along the tailgate was flush on one side, 1/2" hung over on the other side. Along the sides of my truck, the cap was down flush (tight vertical fit) and at the back near the tailgate, then it rose up to about 1/2" at the truck cab. I asked the installer to correct it which he tried but could not. After approx. 1 more hour of discussing the issues and him trying to correct them, I finally asked him to remove it and refund my money. I took my issues to the manufacturer who said that these tolerances were "within specified tolerances" but would not tell me what those installation tolerances were. They stated that their dealer was a good dealer and that they had "done their best". Well in this particular case, it was not good enough. I am somewhat pickey about my truck, but I am also very reasonable. I have seen many, many other installations of the A.R.E. LSII top and no others had a fit and finish like mine. I am furious that the dealer tried to sell me this inferior installation and even more furious that the dealer is choosing to not do anything about this problem.
